Hi everyone,
I hope all of you have had a great weekend.
Today in our lady's meeting at church we talked about the importance of the scriptures in our lives. For part of the lesson our teacher asked us to write our favorite scripture reference on a piece of paper and turn it in. Then she would read our reference and we could read the verse aloud and tell why we liked it. Or how it helped us in our lives.
As we were going through them I was hoping that time would run out before she got to mine. lol I wasn't sure what I would say. :)
As my luck would have it, she read my references last. Just before time ran out. Mine were:
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
John 17:3
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
John 5:39
I said that I liked the first verse because of how important it was to really KNOW the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent. How can we worship and pray to someone/something we don't know? We should know who They are and what They are. There are so many different opinions in the world. Which one is right and how will we know it?
Then about the second verse I said..it is through the reading of the scriptures that we find the answer to this question of just who is God. Reading and studying the scriptures with open minds and hearts will bring the witness of the Holy Spirit to our spirit. The Spirit and the scriptures both testify of Them.
Notice the underlined words...the two verses are connected. Studying with the spirit will give us the answer. We will feel it in our hearts when we have found the answer. :)
Also I have found that my days are always better when I read the scriptures. It's a great feeling. :)
What is your favorite scripture and why? (seems like I have talked about this before).
Have a great week.
Take care....
John 3:16- For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that who soever believeth shall not perish but have everlasting life.
ReplyDeleteOh .. it's so hard to pick just one favorite scripture.
ReplyDeleteAnd, it changes, sometimes day to day.
Today, it's 2 Nephi 32:9
Pray always..
I think John 3:16 has always said it all for me- Blessings- xo Diana
